Author Guidelines
Author Guidelines for Journal of Computational Biology and Medicine
The Journal of Computational Biology and Medicine seeks to publish high-quality research in the fields of computational biology, bioinformatics, medical informatics, and related areas of biomedical sciences. We invite authors to submit their manuscripts in accordance with the following guidelines to ensure that their work meets the standards of our journal.
General Submission Guidelines
- Originality: Manuscripts submitted to Journal of Computational Biology and Medicine must be original and not have been published or simultaneously submitted to any other journal. Authors must disclose if their manuscript has been previously posted in a preprint repository or if any of the content is under review elsewhere.
- Manuscript Types: The journal accepts the following types of manuscripts:
- Original Research Articles
- Reviews and Surveys
- Clinical Studies and Case Reports
- Methodology Papers
- Perspective Articles
- Short Communications
- Language: Manuscripts must be submitted in English. Authors whose first language is not English are encouraged to have their manuscript professionally proofread to ensure clarity and readability.
- Ethical Considerations: All research involving human or animal subjects must comply with the relevant ethical guidelines and be approved by an institutional review board (IRB) or ethics committee. Authors must state that ethical approval was obtained and provide reference to the approval code in the Methods section.
- Word Count: While there is no strict word limit, typical research articles should be between 3,000 and 8,000 words (including references, tables, and figures). Review articles are generally between 4,000 and 10,000 words.
Manuscript Structure
The manuscript should be organized in the following order:
- Title
- Abstract
- Keywords
- Introduction
- Materials and Methods
- Results
- Discussion
- Conclusion
- Acknowledgments
- References
Each section is described in detail below.
Title
The title should be concise, informative, and clearly reflect the content of the manuscript. Titles should not exceed 15 words.
Abstract
The abstract should summarize the key aspects of the study, including the aim, methods, results, and conclusions. It should be between 150 and 250 words. The abstract should not contain citations, tables, or figures.
Keywords
Provide 4–6 keywords that best describe the content of your manuscript. These keywords will help increase the visibility of your paper through search engines and databases.
Introduction
The introduction should outline the background and significance of the study, the research question(s), and the objectives of the work. It should also include a brief review of related work to contextualize your research within the broader scientific field. Avoid detailed results or discussion in this section.
Materials and Methods
This section should describe the methods used in your study in sufficient detail for other researchers to replicate the work. Include information on:
- Experimental Design: Provide details on study design, experimental protocols, and computational tools.
- Data Collection: Include details of datasets, experimental subjects (if applicable), and any procedures used to obtain the data.
- Analysis: Describe any statistical methods, algorithms, and software tools used to analyze the data.
- Ethical Approval: State that ethical approval has been obtained for experiments involving human or animal subjects, and include the relevant approval codes.
Results
The results should be presented in a logical sequence, clearly reporting the findings of your study. This section should include appropriate use of tables, figures, and charts to support the textual description. Each figure or table should be accompanied by a caption that describes its content and significance.
Discussion
The discussion should interpret the results in the context of the research question(s). Compare your findings with existing studies, identify any limitations of your study, and suggest directions for future research.
Conclusion
Summarize the key findings of your research and their potential impact. The conclusion should be brief, typically no more than 150 words.
Acknowledgments
This section is optional. It should include any funding sources, institutional support, or other acknowledgments, such as help from colleagues or contributions that do not warrant authorship.
References
All references must be formatted according to IEEE citation style. In-text citations should be numbered consecutively as they appear in the text, and the reference list should be formatted as follows:
- In-text citation: [1], [2], [3], etc.
- Reference List: The full citation should include the author(s), title of the paper, title of the journal or book, volume number, issue number (if applicable), page range, and year of publication. For example:
- [1] A. B. Smith and C. D. Johnson, “Title of the paper,” Journal of Computational Biology, vol. 23, no. 4, pp. 123-135, 2020.
For book references:

Figures and Tables
- Figures: All figures should be clear, high quality, and numbered consecutively. The figure caption should be placed below the figure, and it should describe the content of the figure succinctly. Use color where necessary to enhance clarity, but ensure that the figure is still legible in black and white.
- Tables: Tables should be numbered consecutively, and each table should have a concise title. Place the table title above the table. Avoid using vertical lines, and keep tables simple and easy to read.
Supplementary Materials
If your paper includes supplementary materials (e.g., datasets, code, or additional figures), these should be submitted as separate files and referenced appropriately within the manuscript. Supplementary materials will be published alongside the article and should be clearly labeled.
Revisions and Proofs
Once your manuscript has been reviewed and accepted for publication, you will be required to submit any revisions requested by the reviewers or editors. Authors will receive proofs of the final version of their article and should check these proofs carefully before publication.
Submission Process
Submissions should be made via the journal’s online submission system. Authors must create an account to submit their manuscript and track its progress through the review process.
Upon submission, the manuscript will undergo a preliminary review by the editorial team, followed by peer review. Authors will be notified of the decision regarding their submission within 4-6 weeks of submission.
